In 2006, Tarleton Blackwell’s commissioned portrait of the late Representative C. Alex Harvin III was unveiled and permanently displayed in the Clarendon County Court House.  In 2005, his commissioned portrait of Dean Larry Faulkner was unveiled at The Columbia Museum of Art and permanently displayed at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine.  In 2003, his commissioned portrait of  Dr. Charles S. Bryan, former Dean of the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine was unveiled and permanently displayed in the “Charles S. Bryan History of Medicine Room.  In 2001, his commissioned portrait of the late Judge Julia Jones, Chief Justice of North Carolina, was unveiled and permanently displayed in the Mecklenburg County Judicial Complex.  Blackwell’s portrait of the late Senator I. DeQuincey Newman was unveiled in 1987 at the South Carolina Sate House in ceremonies in the Senate Chamber.  The late Representative C. Alex Harvin III said, “Having your work hung in the State House is the highest honor this state can give an artist.”


On May 17, 2004, Blackwell was invited to receptions at both The White House at the request of Mrs. Laura Bush and to the United States Department of State at the request of the Secretary of State and Mrs. Colin L. Powell, in recognition for his participation with the Art in Embassies Program on the occasion of its Fortieth Anniversary.  The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Howard Franklin Jeter, requested Blackwell’s life-size group portrait entitled “The Unity Series II: Sisterhood,” oil on canvas, 80x90 inches for exhibit in the ambassadorial residence in Lagos, Nigeria from 2001 through 2003.
